Tips During Bear Tours With A Group

By Claudine Hodges

It is always fun to spend quality time with your loved ones. It is a popular means of recreation and relaxation. There are many things we can do to while together but among the best ways is to go out and do something unique from time to time.

If you are done with camping, diving and touring around the top caves and museums in your area, then do not fret. You still have several options left. Among these is the popular bear watching event. If you have been to Alaska, you must have heard about the Juneau bear tours catering the demand of those people who want to enjoy the activity.

Bear watching can be fun. But there is a high risks that comes with this activity as well. Remember that they are sensitive animals. They easily react to movements and immediately shift into predatorial mode when they see you as threats. More importantly, they are intelligent. So unless you want to have a problem dealing with these huge animals during one of your visits, be sure to remember the following things.

Dress right. This is not just any type of tour where you can be as casual as you like. Yes you can wear jeans and short. But be sure you bring some spare clothing with you. Depending on the area where you will do the watching, you may have to strictly stick to rubber shoes and cargo pants. If the weather is hot, consider bringing a hat with you as well.

Store foods well. You will most likely be staying on developed campgrounds during your break time or lunch. When you do, be sure to bring with you the foods that you will need and store the remaining ones securely. Place them on the trunk of your car to be sure. Reports of bear robbing your car some foods is nothing new. They have strong smell and they can detect if you left something good for them on the passenger seat.

Do not approach them. No matter how kind they look or how you badly want to touch their soft looking fur, you should never ever approach them. As mentioned, they are sensitive and intelligent. If they become too accustomed to human presence, they might come straight to you next time. If you feed them, they will eventually come looking for food from you.

Do not run away. If you do encounter one at a very close situation, do not ever think of running. Even if your instincts tell you to do so, just do not. You will lose. They run faster than you do and if you run first, they will interpret this as fleeing and will most likely come after you.

Five, pack with you a bear spray. This works just like the pepper spray to humans. Use this in extremely desperate scenarios and not randomly. Besides, these materials may not be permitted by some commercial planes.

Make your watching experience memorable by being prepared. Make a list of the things you should bring with you and pack them ahead of time. If you come in big groups, be sure to remind each member of the things mentioned on this list.
