Christmas and New Year's Eve is such an amazing time of year and it is the most anticipated time of year for me. New Year's Eve for me in the past few years has been a time for relaxing and enjoying the night in my favourite bar in my home town with family or friends. However, last New Year's Eve my friend Lucy and I went to South America for Christmas and New Year's Eve. If you are thinking of going to South America for New Year's Eve then I will be able to tell you all about it in this travel review. If you're undecided about which country to go to, don't be, because Brazil and Rio De Janeiro are where it is at for New Year's Eve in South America. A New Year's Eve in Rio De Janeiro is truly one of the best ways to experience New Year's Eve.
As we all know, Rio de Janeiro is renowned for the awesome celebrations all year round, including early in the year with the Rio Carnival. Nevertheless, New Year's Eve is absolutely massive in Rio and on Copacabana Beach people gather and celebrate together by drinking, samba dancing, watching the fireworks at midnight, and much more. The firework display in this place is really cool, as they use expensive and very colorful fireworks, and these really last a long time in the night sky and light up around the beach.
There are hotels to stay at the beach, and one of which is the Copacabana Palace Hotel. Although the hotel is very luxurious, it is still worth a stay. The place gives you an overlooking view around the area. It also has New Year's Eve parties, but the Hotel party entrance fee is around $1100 USD. If you are looking for an affordable hotel to stay at the beach, you may want to try the Mama Ruisa Hotel, an older, but also beautiful, and affordable place to stay.
Oh, and the best thing about being in South America for New Year's Eve is the weather. If you're like me and like your weather warm then this is the place to be. It is so annoying that during this time of year, the weather in northern hemisphere countries is cold and most of the places are full of snow. That's why so many people want to spend their New Year's Eve in warm tropical locations, like Rio de Janeiro. The weather was so hot during the time we were there, and I loved that we could swim at the beach all day and night. Rio de Janeiro is possibly the best warm weather location to stay during New Year's Eve.
If you love mountain hiking, Rio de Janeiro has some awesome trips. When you have had an enough of swimming and the beach, you may want to do some mountain hiking at the Corcovado and Sugar Loaf Mountains. Aside from hiking you may also try out some different things, like catching the train up Corcovado mountain where the statue of Christ the Redeemer is located. Up there you will get a great view of the whole city.
If I were you I would book a trip to Rio De Janeiro for your next New Year's Eve vacation. I can guarantee you will not regret. You will definitely have a blast.
