The Best Long Island Fishing Charters

By Carissa Glenn

Many people spend a great day on the water enjoying Long Island fishing charters. There is nothing like a day on the boat with good friends and lots of food. It can be one of the best ways to spend time with family and even co workers. Boat charters are a great way for corporate groups to get out of the office and really have some fun.

A days fishing is also perfect for a Father's Day gift. Most dads love to fish and will be thrilled to receive such a day out. It can be made extra special by having the rest of the family come along to share the fun. For those really hard to buy for dad's who already have everything a charter boat outing is a really unique idea. It will create memories that last for ever and may even become an annual tradition.

Experienced fishermen may like to go well off shore and spend several days on the boat. They have the opportunity to fish for more and larger species including shark and swordfish. This is probably only for the most seasoned people who know that they will not get sea sick. The open ocean can get rough and it is important to have some sturdy sea legs.

Striped Bass are one of the best fish found in the waters around Long Island. They are a large fish with a lot of edible flesh. Eaten fresh from the ocean they provide a delicious and healthy meal. Many people like to pan fry them with some potato and vegetables. They can also be cooked on the grill. The meat is very light and has a delicate flavor. It is very popular with anyone who does not like strong tasting or oily fish.

Many people are concerned that their lack of fishing knowledge might be a problem. This is not the case. The captain and crew are only to happy to help anyone who asks. The beginner can learn all about the water and weather conditions and how they affect the movement of the fish. It takes a lifetime of experience to really know the waters and many of the best captains are local men who grew up on boats with their own father's.

Safety on the water should be a primary consideration for everyone. Fishermen should ensure that their captain is certified and has all the necessary insurance. The vessel must also reach, or preferably exceed all coast guard safety standards. There are restrictions on the number of passengers on the vessel and the location and number of the life jackets.

Before leaving the harbor they should be a thorough safety inspection and everyone should know how to find the personal flotation devices and how to evacuate the boat in an emergency. Everyone on board should be totally confident they know exactly how to react.

Many people are taking Long Island fishing charters every year. They are a great way to spend time with friends out on the water. Weather conditions must always be taken into consideration. If a storm is forecast it is good to know there is a cancellation or rescheduling policy in place.
