A Guide To Fully Convert To Judaism

Those who wish to convert to Judaism are required to follow a number of steps. These steps are designed to ensure that conversion is a personal decision grounded on knowledge and understanding. The process takes a while to complete. This gives you as an individual time to learn necessary Jewish traditions, beliefs and cultures.

You are required to research on the history, customs and laws that guide the Jewish way of life. This serves as an introduction into the life you wish to be enlisted. It is a process that makes it clear why you are converting. The decision is bound to affect your entire life. Your children will learn from you. This means that you must know.

You will be taught the thirteen pillars and 613 commandments. They are the basis of this religion. You are required to discuss your decision with family members. This is to make them understand your move, intentions and desires. It makes them comfortable with your conversion.

It is tough for anyone to covert because of marriage. It is a requirement to have the conviction before converting. It is common to hear that Im a rabbi who is not ready to admit anyone for convenience sake. Your spouse will help you choose a denomination to follow. Personal decision and conviction are important when converting.

Sincerity of heart and genuine desire are demanded from anyone who wants to convert to Judaism. It is a spiritual transformation and must not be informed by any other desire. There are different denominations like Orthodox, Reform and Conservatives which you may join. Their levels of devotion distinguish them.

You will inform a Rabbi once you have made the final decision. He will try to convince you otherwise to measure your conviction. It is expected that you will resist such a move since you are determined. This opens the door for you to complete the process of conversion. It takes time to go through these stages unlike other religions.

You will take almost a year in class studying in order to convert to Judaism. Night classes are offered by some organizations and you will also be required to begin living the Jewish life as early as possible. Instructions are based on culture, customs and beliefs. Hebrew language is preferred during delivery of instructions.

Every learner is required to take a test after completing classes. You will sit in a court of three authorities called Beit Din to test how well you can adhere to Halacha. This is a mandatory procedure during conversion. Those who qualify are taken through the ritual bath ceremony. It involves full emersion in Mikveh. All males must have been circumcised. Shedding a little blood will complete the ritual.

It is not automatic for children to convert to Judaism because their parents have converted. Some orders are very strict and do not even permit children conceived before start of classes to be converted. These children are required to attend their classes at the age of thirteen. Those born later are automatically admitted.
