Connecting At The Suwannee River Campground

By Elsa English

A Florida State Park is located at the junction of the Withlacoochee and Suwanee rivers which then lead to the Gulf of Mexico. While beautiful scenery, there is also intense history in one area near the Suwannee River Campground. This history includes longstanding mounds of earthly destruction dating back to the Civil War.

Whether camping out at the state park or visiting the local Suwannee Music Park and Campground, individuals will find everything necessary for a successful camping experience. Both parks recommend individuals call ahead for reservations and availability. When planning on camping at the Music Park, it is often best to make reservations well in advance as several large music festivals occur at the park each Spring and Summer. As the overflow campers often camp at the State park, it is also a good idea to book either location in advance where possible.

Each trail loops around woodlands, many with panoramic views of the area. Different trails offer the opportunity for boating, fishing, hiking and picnicking. Nature abounds with flora and fauna as visitors view a variety of birds, butterflies and honeybees in natural habitats, and occasional exhibits. Located only thirteen miles from Live Oak, Floria, travelers will find easy campground and park access off U. S. Hwy 90.

Music lovers should note that during festivals, the Music Park and Campground is often sold out with tickets only available from the music promoter. Whereas, the State park is often open and available throughout the year. Weather in the area is often beautiful year round though there can be periods of heavy rain, especially during hurricane season.

Both parks and campgrounds offer couples, family, group, and youth accommodations. While campsites are often quite popular, each park also offers a number of different type cabins. RV parking areas, some with hookups are also available.

Visitors staying at the State park may want to inquire as to the schedule of the music park. The park offers live concerts on a regular basis in addition to the many festivals it hosts throughout the year. Having live music so close to a campground outside a music festival is often a rarity so live music lovers may definitely want to check out both parks while in the area.

Whether looking for a simple family camp out, a music festival, a New Year's eve party or a place to relax while watching bats and birds, star gazing or riding the river, this northern part of Florida has a lot to offer. Individuals seeking longer, or frequent stays may want to check out the many custom built cabins for sale. Those traveling by RV will be happy to find local RV parking areas complete with hookups, restaurant and country store at the Music park.

Beyond music and camping, the Music park also hosts an annual New Year's Eve party each year. While live music, music festival and parties often happen at the Music Park, the State park offers for a much quieter camping experience. Regardless, individuals camping in this area of Northern Florida are likely to find all the activities, amenities and special offerings of the area a truly enjoyable experience.
