Common Sense Tips For Living To Tell A Survivalist Story

By Diane Baker

For some individuals it is foolish to think that our planet will just go on spinning forever without change. Historically they know that, every few thousand years, total species are wiped out by flood, famine, endemic disease, and dramatic climate change. Adding modern humans to the equation makes a global catastrophe even more likely. We are the ones who will be responsible for any crippling economic collapse, nuclear warfare, or global cyberattack. It just makes sense to prepare in advance for what is coming, if you intend to be around to relate your successful survivalist story.

Emergency agencies recommend everyone be prepared in the case of a sudden event such as an earthquake, hurricane, tornado, or major flooding. You should keep a good supply of flashlights, batteries, gallon jugs of fresh water, and cans of food where they will be accessible if you become trapped in your home without electricity or running water. This is fine for a week or so, but will not be enough for long term survival.

If something occurs that has long term consequences, these provisions will be woefully inadequate. Where you live will become important and may make a difference in whether you survive or not. Urban areas are not the best places to be in an environmental emergency. You will not be able to find the food and shelter you need to last over a long period of time without any natural resources.

In order to have any chance of remaining alive in such a situation, there are certain things these individuals advise you do. You will have to seek shelter in an area where you are able to find edible plants, fresh water, and shelter from the elements. This is probably going to be in a more remote part of the country than most of us current live.

If you don't secure protection from the elements and some sort of nourishment, you won't last long in this environment. Some people build underground facilities complete with communications systems, natural water supplies, and indoor gardens. Others, who can't envision a world without sunlight, may opt for cave or cavern like abodes. They know their ancestors survived and thrived in similar circumstances.

The survivalists will tell you there are things everyone can do before anything monumental happens. You can do some research online and learn how to identify edible vegetation from the poisonous variety. You might even experiment with various plants and add them to your regular diet. Those who have to survive in the wilderness will need some form of protection. Automatic weapons are not a long term solution.

Individuals who exercise regularly and maintain healthy eating habits will have a natural advantage over a sedentary population that subsists mainly on fast food and sugary drinks. Active people will have a better chance of surviving the elements and living on what they can find in the wild. Strength, endurance, and adaptability will be the new goals. Survivalists believe it is wise to begin an aggressive health regimen now.

Whether the survivalists' predictions come true or not, it is a good idea to be prepared in the case of an emergency. There may come a time when you have no one to depend on but yourself.
