A Galapagos And Machu Picchu Tour Is A Dream Combination

By Linda Ruiz

Sometimes we need to chill out, relax on the beach and have a holiday where we do nothing. A week or two in a resort is the best way to recharge your batteries and get away from work. However, other times we need something more, something special. A Galapagos and Machu Picchu tour is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience things most people dream of.

For travelers who love nature the Galapagos are the ultimate trip. There is nowhere else like these islands. Not only is the wildlife endemic, it is not scared of humans. This means you can get close to wild animals in a way which is normally impossible. You can take pictures and they will just sit there, the sealions practically pose for you.

Off the coast of Ecuador are the Galapagos Islands. They are a group of volcanic islands most of which have remained uninhabited and have been largely untouched by humans. This means the animals there do not fear people. They have not really been hunted so are friendly, even curious and do not run away. This is the thing which brings visitors from around the world. There is nowhere else like these islands.

As well as daily land safaris, it is also possible to swim and snorkel from the boats. The area has an incredible range of marine life as it sits in the confluence of three major ocean currents. At different times of year it is possible to see hammerhead sharks, several species of whale, turtles, dolphins, penguins, seahorses and huge numbers of fish.

For the Indiana Jones part of your trip you would head to the capital of the Inca Empire in Peru. High in the Andes is the city of Cusco. It is worth the trip just for this as the historic meets the modern in the most beguiling way. The city is full of cobbled streets, museums, ruins and traditional markets. It also has modern restaurants, a vibrant nightlife and a burgeoning gastronomic scene.

The Inkas left a huge number of sacred sites, palaces and forts for the adventurous traveler to discover. Machu Picchu is the most famous and was voted one of the new wonders of the modern world. The location and the architecture are both impressive. It is situated on top of a mountain overlooking the high jungle region with steep hills shrouded in misty forests.

It is situated about 120 kilometers from the city of Cusco which acts as the hub for all travelers to the citadel. Cusco has modern hotels, restaurants and museums alongside a way of life which has not changed for hundreds of years. To get to the Inka site most people travel by train from the high Andes down into the cloud forest. This journey is breathtaking as you pass from glaciers to jungle in just a few hours.

Travelling to the high Andes requires some planning. The rainy season can be challenging for visitors and the climate is unique. It is dry and hot during the day and cool, even cold at night. At 3300 meters above sea level, Cusco can cause some visitors to suffer from altitude sickness so make sure to prepare well.

Special holidays are something we save for and dream of for a long time. A trip to the Galapagos Islands and the Inka region is something you will treasure forever. Using a reputable tour company so that you get the best accommodation, prices and guides is a must.
