By Tyler Ramos

Many people today are talking about the metro subway system in Panama. It is an ambitious project that is set to take the nation to a whole new level of standards when it comes to transport. Therefore, the whole nation is watching the project with a lot of keenness for everything to go well to the end.

Media houses from various sections are focusing on this project as much as many other people and organizations are doing. International media has also come into the field to see how it goes. No one would want to do something that will end up painting a bad picture of the project thus a lot of caution.

Stretching for fourteen kilometers, the railway covers a good part of that central region of the city. It has a huge section, almost a half of it as a subway with the other mostly as an overpass. It is expected to ease congestion and also improve transport efficiency in the city.

It starts from the southern terminus of Albrook going through about 16 stations to the Corridor Norte in the North. It is aimed at the working class section of passengers and this will ensure time efficiency. There is a lot to gain from saving time taken to travel and that is a major aim of the project.

Strategic plans associated with the project ensure that the result of running of this subway is an elevation of the economy in the long run. Many expect investment to improve with an influx of business people and other parties. It may be the case should all go as well as planned at the start of this project.

Some people claim that there is politics in the construction of this railway route. They see the keenness of the president in the project as a sign of political games. It is said the president Ricardo Martinelli is keen to ensure that all is well by the end of this project to build his political ambitions.

Criticism has it that the government is strategically placing the timetable of the project to end in 2013. Some say this is due to the fact that the elections are set for 2014 and thus a way to win the affection of electorate. Criticism is healthy and has got its way of looking way into serious matters.

For a good number of citizens, the finishing of this project is what matters most in the end. They cannot wait to start using the routes and enjoy everything they can about it. To them, the start of operation of this system is what matters a lot and they are crossing their fingers waiting for the days it will come to be.

Another section of people like to know what may happen to the important historic sites that lie on the route of the metro subway system in Panama. Archaeological sites that are on the route may be excavated for the construction. It is an issue that may bring a lot of problems to the government. This is however a great project that people can look forward to.
