Machu Picchu Trips Are World Wonder Memories

By Josie Stokes

Machu Picchu trips make for lifetime memories for many of those tourists who go there. This location has become more popular than ever since it was named as a wonder of the world. When one visits this site, it is easy to get a feel for how life was 500 years ago in Peru.

What many people do not realize is that Peru is a large country and that it isn't always quick to travel from one place to another. It's a good idea to plan around a week for getting to Machu Picchu, even if you don't want to trek there. If you do want to trek, you'll need a bit more time.

Most people will require a couple of days just to reach Cusco, the place where every trip to Machu Picchu has its start. Once Cusco is reached, there will be time needed to acclimate to the very high altitude. There is a wide variety of things to do while in the area as you are acclimating.

You are probably going to be happier if you are not trying to rush while you are in the area surrounding Cusco. This city is a nice place for spending a few days just enjoying it and the various restaurants and museums that can be found there. The countryside around it, particularly in the Sacred Valley, is extremely beautiful also.

To get to Machu Picchu, you will need to either trek or take the train. For treks, you will need at least four days unless you are taking the short Inca Trail which is just two. Even for the train, it's good to take two days so that you can travel to the nearby town one day and then visit the site the next.

If you've got more time for your vacation, this trip can be combined with other ones in Southern Peru. You could add such locations as Arequipa, Lake Titacaca, the Nazca Lines or Colca Canyon, for example. With sufficient time, you could also add in a few days for visiting the jungle.

Machu Picchu trips can be done in as short as a week or, in combination with other locations, one can plan a vacation of several weeks. The most important place to visit when traveling to Peru will be this world wonder. Beyond that, it's really just a question of the amount of time you have available and your individual interests.
