Choosing Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours

By Yesenia Terry

You may think that you know what grand is, but you have not seen absolute grandeur until you have taken in the view of the Grand Canyon from the top of it. There is not a sight that compares to this one; the sights, the colors, the length and depth and the splendor of the Grand Canyon are a panorama that is beautiful and memorable to behold. There are several companies offering Grand Canyon helicopter tours.

You may take a helicopter tour from a number of tour companies offering the service. The schedules and circuits of the flights vary. There are different departure points and landing areas. Tours may be taken starting from the South Rim and others start the other way, which is from the North Rim.

The duration of the different flights also differ. Some are as short as 15 minutes, others are a bit longer, lasting 30 minutes and others will go on for 45 minutes to an hour. Most popular are helicopters that allow for clear views with no obstructions. Some flights talk passengers through the tour with multi-lingual narrations. This may be done with music as well, that comes from headphones.

There are a number of these. Some of them are the Dragon Corridor which is the broadest and deepest part of the place. Another outstanding feature is a towering hill that rises to a height of 6, 076 feet. The hill was named as far back as the 1800s after the Egyptian sun god. There are other striking rock shapes that are naturally shaped like shrines and temples which are over a billion years old. Other remarkable sights are the Colorado River and the Black Canyon.

There is also the option to take helicopters over the Vegas Strip. A Vegas voyage will enable views of Mt. Charleston, the Red Rock mountain and the neighboring mountain ranges. It is possible to catch glimpses of majestic resorts and hotels over the area as well as golf courses and world-famed pools. Other sights are the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Downtown Las Vegas and the Nellis Air Force Base. Flights over the Vegas Strip are usually short, lasting from 12 to 15 minutes. You can take the flight by day or night.

Another option flight is the Southwest from where sights of Lake Mead, Fortification Hill and Hoover Dam can be enjoyed. Take a dip of up 3,500 feet right into the heart of the mountain and thereafter land some 300 feet atop the Colorado River and then catch sights of the Black Canyon on the way back to the South Las Vegas Valley.

There are more than a few options for Grand Canyon helicopter tours. Be guided by your budget and sights you are most keen on seeing and perhaps photographing. Either way, as long as you are looking out at this amazing place from above, the experience and views are sensational and unforgettable.
