Before You Book Puerto Rico Guided Tours

By Mary Burns

You are probably on this article right now because there is a big chance that you are planning a tropical vacation sometime in the near future. A few of your colleagues may have suggested to you that you try out some Puerto Rico guided tours when you do decide. This seems like a good idea and you are all for it. Prior to you jumping right in and making a rush decision, it may be a good idea that you finish reading this article first.

As this is a decision that will involve the spending of time and money, two very important resources, then a checklist is definitely required. A checklist is something that will help you keep track of important things related to your search for an informed decision.

First and foremost you must make sure that all your travel documents are in order, especially where passports are concerned. Make sure that you have the necessary visa to enter the country and that your passport has at least more than six months validity during your trip. In addition, always check your bookings and reconfirm in advance so you will not have any issues later on.

As you will be partaking of guided tours while on the island, you most likely will be dealing with tour operating companies and outfits. Just make sure that these operators and outfits that you are dealing with have the proper accreditation and also permits from their respective government bodies or authorities. Going for a legal operator serves to protect you in the long run should something go wrong while the tour is ongoing.

The next thing to look at when choosing a guided tour is the quality of the tour guide also. The tour guide must not only be presentable and well groomed, but be well informed as well. He or she must have impeccable skills in English as well, as this will be the general language spoken by most tourists the world over.

Should you really wish to push through with taking guided tours in Puerto Rico, there are two general categories to choose from. One will be located mostly in the city and urban areas to give you a taste of local cultural, historical and commercial activity. The other category will involve you going out into the rural areas and partake more of the natural wonders that the country has to offer. Whatever your poison just make sure you allot enough time for it.

A very big determinant on your choice of tour package will of course be the overall price. A rule of thumb is that the bigger the group is, it is generally cheaper on a per head basis, as when compared to smaller and more specialized tour groups. Price will also very much depend on general supply and demand conditions as dictated by the particular season which you are in.

And of course for the final part of your checklist is what to bring. Do pack light and bring only light clothes made of cotton and breathable material, for you will be in a tropical country after all. Also make sure you bring a lot of water for your tours as well as plenty of sunblock and mosquito lotion if you are able.
