Fast Reading Methods That Anyone Can Start Using Now

By Patricia Wright

There are so many interesting books that you can read. If you love books, then you will want to go through as many of them as you possibly can. But this can be a challenge if you are a slow reader. You can learn fast reading techniques to help you go through books quickly. Here are some useful tips to keep in mind.

Once you get started with a book, focus. Avoid thinking about other things. Make an effort to stay in the present until you are through with the task. If you catch yourself daydreaming or worrying about other stuff, stop it immediately and guide your mind back to your present activity. Stick at the task. With time, you will eventually learn how to focus on one thing, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Set yourself up in the right environment before you get started. This will help you to concentrate. For instance, avoid reading while you are lying in bed, as you can easily fall asleep. Going through your material when you are seated upright in a chair or on a desk can help you concentrate. Also, consider setting up your book at an angle to give you better vision as you look at it.

Don't reread the material over and over. Just go through it once. It might be helpful to take notes, so that you don't have to go back to the book when you want to look for something. You can just refer back to your notes. Using a finger while reading will help you stop going back to words or sentences that you have already read.

Read at a time when you have the most energy and concentration in the day. This can be early in the morning. Prioritize your reading material and start with what's important. Do this when your mind is still clear. You can categorize your materials in different ways. What's very important, what's moderately important and what's least important.

Look over the material first before you start going through it. Check how it has been divided into sections and see what is important to you. You can now pay more attention to the important bits, while skimming over the other parts that you may not be so interested in.

Avoid distractions when you are reading. The best way to do this is to read when you are least likely to be distracted. This can be at night or early morning when everyone else is still asleep. You can also read in a quite environment, such as a library.

Get tips form a professional. You can check in your neighborhood if there are any reading classes. If you can't find any, check online to see if you can join a class. You will have to pay to join a class but most of them are not expensive.
