The Concept Of Divine Expression Can Provide Peace Of Mind

By Casandra Newton

Throughout history, there have been mystics and religions which have regarded the Universe as an example of Divine Expression. There have always been ideas of the Creator being All that Is, both Seen and Unseen. While to scientifically-minded individuals this may seem to be far-fetched, there may be a certain scientific basis supporting such a viewpoint.

If everything were indeed part of the Creator, it would mean that everything must consist ultimately of the same substance. This would seem nonsensical, had it not been shown that everything that exist is made from energy, and there is no reason to suppose that this doesn't hold throughout this Reality. This includes light, sound and even thought is energy-based.

However, by personifying this Energy, religions are implying that this Energy which underlies everything is conscious. Science has not been able to determine when consciousness first arose, but it is assumed to have a spontaneous origin. There is no evidence that it was not always present from the very beginning, and this is certainly as likely as any other scenario, given the lack of any objective evidence.

While some things are more obviously conscious than others, this may simply reflect that consciousness may be more difficult to detect in certain forms. So it is possible that consciousness is not limited to higher living creatures or even all living creatures. Without knowing what it is and how to detect it objectively, it is impossible to make any hard and fast rules.

The sense of grandeur invoked by gazing at the stars could then be explained by the fact that it reminds us that we are all an integral part of that visible splendor. Contemplating the miracle of birth or even the smallest micro-organism can produce a sense of wonder. It is then easy to see that, no matter its size, all of Creation is truly miraculous, and amazingly coherent.

If this is indeed the case, then everything that happens should also be looked at in the light of this awareness. Instead of judging events from a purely personal standpoint. Events can be viewed with a holistic sense of the part they play in the Dance of Creation. Widening the perspective in this way can result in totally changed attitudes, without any sense of being victimized at all. Any such feelings are clearly seen to be an illusion.

As attitude is purely a matter of choice, it seems that being too close to a problem is actually what may make it seem a problem in the first place, as only a very limited view is possible. Whether an event is good or bad is not an attribute of the event, but depends on the perspective of the observer. Different observers may view the same event entirely differently. Standing further back and viewing events from different angles brings them into focus more sharply.

Being able to perceive everything as an integrated whole, with nothing out of place or unnecessary, but everything a natural result of what has gone before and leading up to a perfect result adds a new dimension to Life. This view provides a greater sense of serenity and calmness in the face of vicissitudes. In this way the idea of Divine Expression can make living much less stressful for those who may be unwilling participants.
