Milawa Travelling To The Music, Fine Food And Wine

The town of Milawa can be found in the state of Victoria, Australia. Although small in size it has plenty to offer visitors including a wide variety of locally grown and produced fine food and wines. Staying in this town is likely to be a very enjoyable experience providing the opportunity to sample a wonderful array of cultural delights including fine foods, wine and local art.

Often known as the Gourmet Region this area of Australia is famous for its quality local produce, farms and local arts and crafts shops. Enjoyable places to pass the time include wineries, local mustard and olive producers and a cheese company offering a diverse selection of cheeses. Many producers hold tasting sessions giving people the opportunity to enjoy a range of locally made food and wine. This includes the chance to sample locally made preserves, herb vinegars and mustard.

Many of the wineries welcome visitors and the wine producer is often around to speak about the wines available. Brown Brothers Winery is one of the oldest wine makers and is located in the nearby area. It produces and exports a wide range of wines including table, sparkling and fortified wines.

The Gourmet Region is based around three local townships namely, Oxley, Whorouly and Milawa. A variety of fresh food producers and well known wineries are situated in this region. Foods available locally include high quality cheeses, fresh fruit, breads, olives, mustard and meat.

The town is situated around 239 km north-east of Melbourne and 15 km south-east of Wangaratta. The area first began to be settled in the 1840s. The town centre is home to a number of interesting local shops and cafes and also a bakery. A historic local hotel is also situated here. The town offers a range of comfortable accommodation including motels, camping facilities, caravans and a boutique hotel.

The nearby area offers many different places to visit and a variety of things to do. Things to do include bush walking, fishing, four wheel driving and cycling. Interesting places to visit include Mount buffalo, Falls Creek and Mount Hotham.

Fans of jazz and blues music will particularly enjoy a visit to this part of Australia. Victoria hosts the yearly Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues. The festival, held in November, has been going since 1990 and is one of the largest regional events in the Country. A great many international artists along with Australian performers have played at the festival.

People typically find that a visit to Milawa is a delightful and memorable one. With its wide selection of renowned local food and wine produces it provides the opportunity to sample all the fine food and wine that Australia has to offer. Its welcoming atmosphere allows people the time to experience and explore this interesting part of Australia.
