An Article On World Vacation Spots For 2012

By Ian Smith

Than goodness we are all different, so we think differently about what is meant by world vacation spots. Most of us will be of the same mind when asked about places we don't think of as world vacation spots.

What exactly do I mean by that last remark. Well when we talk about some of the best places to vacation, it is natural for there to be differing opinions. When it comes to less than ideal places, then most of us would agree with Siberia, the South Pole, the Arctic, Chernyobyl, the centre of the Gobi desert would not be attractive.

Our choice of vacation spots will depend very much on the type of person we are. People who love history mixed with a bit of archaeology would just love Rome, or a number of other European cities. Alternatively if your thing is opera or live high class theatre then Broadway and Shaftesbury Avenue would be more to your liking.

On the other hand if your idea of a great vacation is food and wine, then you have totally different options. Possibly high on a list of priorities might be a tour of France. Then you could visit great Michelin starred restaurants and drink great wine. Equally the wine areas of Australia, New Zealand, or California might be equally attractive.

For those who just love the sun, then the list may seem almost endless. In fact it isn't quite that simple because some like to be active, others just want to chill out. Dealing firstly with the people who like to have something to do in the sun, a beach is probably not the most important thing. In that case your vacation choice must be a resort with the kind of activities you enjoy. That of course may not be enough by itself because your partner or spouse may well want to be lazy and just wants to lie on a beach.

If on the other hand you are both fairly idle, love the sun and don't require golf, exploring or shops to keep you happy, then an island destination in the tropics must be the answer. There are any number of them, from the Maldives to the Bahamas, the Seychelles, whilst the list isn't endless it is a decent length.

Therein lies the problem about vacation spots that suit everyone. The fact is nothing really does, or at least not very often. As indicated earlier, we all have different priorities. It is rare for one place to be right for two people, never mind a whole family. So in reality what is the best solution when planning you own vacation spot.

It is very simply this. Sit down as a couple or a family and make as many lists as possible of what each individual sees as a priority. Make a summary list of the things everyone agrees on. Then a list of secondary demands, followed by an elimination list of the least necessary features. Then task each family member to find somewhere with all of the priority list and the majority of the secondary list, remembering some demands will be location demands and not facilities.

Then meet up again and discuss people's resort choice.. All you have to do now is make an informed decision. That is it, and not too difficult.
