The southern coast of New South Wales has some pleasant historic attractions to go to, as well as the many natural attractions in the area. The twin towns in Tilba are an excellent example and you can drive there simply with Campervan Hire Sydney. Tilba is an old school town with some old fashioned buildings and shops, as well as The Tilba Cheese Factory.
Two separate hamlets actually make up Tilba, Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba. Of the 2, Central Tilba is the larger town and has some lovely old shops, galleries and cafes. If you are fascinated by woodwork or leatherwork, there are some pretty examples in the craft shops of Central Tilba. Check the studios as well because there are some professional artists who live in the area and whose work is sometimes on view.
Tilba Tilba is the littler Tilba Town and is home to the Tilba Cheese Factory, now call the ABC Cheese Factory. Tilba Cheese is one of Australia's best known cheeses and started production in 1881, and they still apply the cheese's wax by hand. It was also the 1st cheese cooperative to be established in New South Wales, so do drop in and taste some.
The littler Tilba town also has a bakery, so if you're desiring a picnic of bread and cheese before heading out for a walk, you can easily pick up the supplies you need. Foxglove Spires is an excellent place for a relaxed mooch, being a stunning English style garden with a nursery, cafeteria and shops close by.
Tilba is a chilled hamlet to wander about in and there are 1 or 2 old fashioned guest houses with accommodation available if you wished to stay overnight before driving on to another area. Before you leave though, make sure to visit the old fashioned sweet shop for one or two treats to take with you.
